Another Witty Novel About Office Life

On the heels of the success of Then We Came to the End, comes another funny novel about cubicle life. Ed Park, a founding editor of The Believer, has written a New York based office novel called Personal Days. This comes in a short line of funny office novels: Company by Max Barry, JPOD by Douglas Coupland and Ferris’ TWCTTE.

There are reviews for Personal Days on The Barnes and Noble Review and The Village Voice. Elizabeth Hand in the Village Voice calls it Kafkaesque. That’s interesting because Nick Hornby called TWCTTE, The Office meets Kafka.

Both books are written in the first person plural, which is why many people may find them difficult to follow but they are also intelligent and thought-provoking. Personal Days can also be compared to Max Barry’s Company because it shows how the inner-workings of a company can be very mysterious to the people working there.
