What can we say about THE HISTORIAN?  We were all excited to read the novel, ten years in the making, which was going to have a fresh look at the vampire story.  This intensely researched, highly talked about novel (which made this first time novelist a very wealthy writer after the multimillion dollar book and movie deals) was made very visible in terms of advertising, an entire episode of Dateline devoted to it, and an enviable word-of-mouth buzz.

And then it was published.

And then it was reviewed.

Somewhere within the 600-plus page novel is a compelling, fascinating, fresh look at vampires.  The other half of the book reads like a travelogue of Eastern Europe and its history.  If this book were cut in half, it may have been as widely read and as popular as The Da Vinci Code.

BookFinds believes that Kostova is a masterful storyteller.  She may just have to cut back a bit on her research.  Instead of ten years on your next book, try stopping at five.
