The Selection Gets A Second Chance

The Selection by Kiera Cass

The tagline for this debut novel by Kiera Cass is “35 Girls. 1 Crown. The competition of a lifetime.” As a fan of The Bachelor, I’m hooked. Apparently, this is what hooked CW execs as well. The book and subsequent upcoming show have been called “the next Hunger Games.” The project, however, has had a shaky start and was ultimately shelved by the CW due to troubles with plotting the pilot (according to iO9 and Entertainment Weekly). Actress Aimee Teegarden from Friday Night Lights has been cast in the lead role of America Singer, with Celia Kate Massingham in the role of bitchy nemesis, Celeste. Well, in an exciting turn of events for fans of the book, the show has been greenlit for another pilot and will hopefully be hitting television screens next season. io9 breaks down what changes need to be made to the original plot of the novel in order for it to be a hit television show.

And here’s a little interesting tidbit, Elizabeth Craft, one of the writers/executive producers of the show (Sarah Fain is her partner in this project) is the sister of well-known blogger and New York Times Bestselling author Gretchen Rubin from The Happiness Project! Small world!

Below is the official book trailer from HarperTeen for THE SELECTION. What do you think? Will this make an interesting show? Will you watch?
