Summary:  Meredith Martin Delinn just lost everything: her friends, her homes, her social standing – because her husband Freddy cheated rich investors out of billions of dollars.

Desperate and facing homelessness, Meredith receives a call from her old best friend, Constance Flute. Connie’s had recent worries of her own, and the two depart for a summer on Nantucket in an attempt to heal. But the island can’t offer complete escape, and they’re plagued by new and old troubles alike. When Connie’s brother Toby – Meredith’s high school boyfriend – arrives, Meredith must reconcile the differences between the life she is leading and the life she could have had.

Set against the backdrop of a Nantucket summer, Elin Hilderbrand delivers a suspenseful story of the power of friendship, the pull of love, and the beauty of forgiveness.

Review: Meredith Delinn’s husband made a fortune by stealing people’s money through shady investing, very reminiscent of the Bernie Madoff scandal. Because her husband is now in jail and she and her sons are under investigation, Meredith feels alone and lost. She seeks solace in the Nantucket home of an old and distant friend, Connie Flute. (It wouldn’t be an Elin Hilderbrand novel without the central character of Nantucket). Hilderbrand does not disappoint with her most recent release. She gives her readers exactly what they have come to love and expect from a Hilderbrand novel: relationship drama, loss, love, friendship, betrayal and sweet summer days. I have said before that I love reading summer-centered books during the summer and this is exactly the kind of book I was talking about. Hilderbrand really allows the reader to empathize with Meredith and Connie is a well-developed and integral character to the story. Both women are flawed and are facing difficult periods in their lives and Hilderbrand’s ability to explore these nuances delicately and yet provide hope and inspiration is truly a testament to her skills as a writer – an enormously popular and prolific writer, I might add. I look forward to the next Hilderbrand novel because it is a sure sign that summer has begun.
