MY NAME IS MEMORY (Riverhead Trade Paperbacks; June 7, 2011; $15.00), is an unforgettable saga of transcendent love from Ann Brashares, the author of one of the most popular young adult series of all times, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants; and the New York Times-bestselling adult novel The Last Summer (of You and Me).

Daniel has spent many lifetimes falling in love with the same girl, in different guises. Over the span of more than a thousand years, across epochs and continents, he and Sophia—whose names and forms change from one life to the next—have been drawn together…and Daniel remembers it all. He has “the Memory”, an ability to recall his past lives and to recognize the souls of the people he used to know. It’s a blessing and a curse—for every time that he and Sophia have managed to find each other, they’ve always been torn tragically, fatally apart.

In small-town Hopewood, Virginia, in the present-day, Daniel has yet another chance to be with Sophia—now “Lucy”—where they are both seniors at the local high school. Unlike Daniel, Lucy’s memory is ordinary; still, she has felt an unusual connection to Daniel since she first laid eyes on him a year earlier.  If they are to be together, Daniel must convince Lucy of their rich but ill-fated history together: of their time together in England during the Great War when he was an injured infantryman and she his dutiful caretaker; of their impossible love in 773 A.D. in Pergamum, Asia Minor, when she was the unhappy wife of his vindictive brother; and, further back still, of their tragic first meeting in 541 A.D. in a humble village in north Africa, when he was a soldier and she the young victim of a senseless attack.

But just as the initially hesitant Lucy begins to awaken to their shared history, the apparent dark force that has come between them time and again, returns.  Theirs is a love with the force of centuries, but if they are to finally spend a lifetime together, they must face a hatred just as ancient.

Enchanting and exhilarating, MY NAME IS MEMORY captures the thrill and tumult of first love like we’ve never seen it before.  From her wildly successful young adult series The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants to, more recently, her New York Times-bestselling adult novel The Last Summer (of You and Me), Ann Brashares has been celebrated for her remarkable ability to create fiction that is “compelling” (The Washington Post) and “affecting” (Entertainment Weekly). MY NAME IS MEMORYis a moving novel about the power and determinations of two hearts destined to become one.

Editors Note: This information came to me in an email from the publisher announcing the release of the upcoming paperback version. Doesn’t this gorgeous description leave you desperately wanting to read MY NAME IS MEMORY? I wanted to share it with all of you, my readers, because it is the book I am curling up with this weekend. I will have my own personal review to come (most likely early next week)…but in the meantime, let me know if you have read or are planning to read this one.

I can say that I honestly have never read an Ann Brashares novel. I was a little too old for the Sisterhood series but popularity like hers must stem from some relatable, intriguing writing. I am looking forward to reading MY NAME IS MEMORY and will let you know my thoughts next week.

  1. I haven’t read the Traveling Pants series (I feel I’m a bit too old) but I did read The Last Summer (of You and Me) and really liked it. I haven’t read this one though. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

  2. I just finished this book, and I’ve fallen in love with it. I just passed the book on to my sister, and I eagerly await the second one! Thank you for writing such a wonderful book!

  3. is it me… or is this book very similar to the fallen series of books by Lauren Kate??? Daniel / Lucy…. many lives together, but always cut short??? hmmmm a recent cover release is similar to the fallen books.

  4. Wow this book really had me at the edge of my seat. Word can not explain the way this book spoke to me. Hoping there is another one on its way. I thoroughly enjoyed “My name is memory”. I could not put it down. You left me with the desire to want to know more so don’t take to long with the next one. Love you lots. Your biggest fan mwah

  5. I just read this book and I absolutely LOVED it. I want to read the next one but I have read that there is currently not one in the works. I initially passed this book over a few times due to the “similarities” with the Fallen series- Daniel/Luce characters, many lives together, being torn apart always. I finally just bought it and I am so glad I did. Really not similar to the Fallen series other than what you read on the back cover. Please Please let the publisher know that a sequel is wanted by readers of this great love story!!!!

  6. I just finished this book and LOVED IT ! I can’t wait for the sequel to come out, and hope they make this into a Movie……

  7. I didnt realize that this would be more than one book.. I am soo happy for that, well that book was really neat. I liked how we got to know them before. But I didnt like how it ended. I think that it is alot like the Fallen series, even down to the name Lucy.. But if the names were different, there is soo much more in this book. The idea is awesome, even though its been around forever.
