In Bruges
Colin Farrell and Brendon Gleason star as a pair of Irish hit men in the black comedy, In Bruges. Farell’s Ray has screwed up a job and his boss, Harry, tells him to go to Bruges, a small medieval town in Belgium. Alongside Ray is the seasoned killer, Ken, played by Gleason. Ray is haunted by his last job and the two spend their time, walking around the beautiful city. They meet an alluring drug dealer named Chloe, a racist American dwarf actor and an angry Canadian. The dialogue is witty and the jokes are clever. Ken is in love with city while Ray looks as if he is being dragged around like a young kid forced to admire the sights. It’s when Ralph Fiennes as Henry comes into the picture that it gets bloody. There are funny anti-American strewn through this script, written by the brilliant Irish playwright and first time filmmaker Martin McDonagh (The Pillow Man,) but I “won’t hold it against him.”
